Hey everyone, just moved to Hobart a few weeks ago and I'm trying to figure out the food scene. I've been to Salamanca Market on Saturday (loved it) but I'm looking for affordable places to eat during the week. I'm a student so budget is tight. Anyone know a good spot for a decent meal under $15? I'm open to anything – Asian, burgers, even just a solid sandwich. I tried a place on Elizabeth Street yesterday and paid $18 for a tiny bowl of pasta, felt ripped off 😅. Also, if there's any hidden gem near the uni, hit me up! Cheers.

Instead of Salamanca Market, check out the food trucks at the Farm Gate Market on Sundays in Bathurst Street. It's cheaper and less crowded. Also, try Bar Wa Izakaya for affordable Japanese small plates, or the Republic Bar for $15 parma nights. The Standard has good burgers for under $20. Avoid the pricier tourist traps on the waterfront.

Hey, I totally get the struggle! As another newcomer, I've been hunting for budget-friendly spots too. Jackman & McRoss is a bit pricey but their pastries are worth it. For cheap eats, try the food trucks at Salamanca Square or the fish and chips at Flippers. Also, the curry place on Elizabeth Street is super affordable and tasty. Hope that helps!

I see you're looking for cheap eats in Salamanca, but I have to politely disagree with focusing just on that area. While the market is great, the restaurants there can be pricey for what you get. I'd suggest checking out Elizabeth Street or North Hobart—places like the Republic Bar or a simple banh mi from a local bakery offer better value and authentic flavors. Salamanca is more about the atmosphere than budget-friendly dining, in my experience.

Mate, Salamanca's got some ripper cheap eats if you know where to look. Try Banjo's Bakery for a classic meat pie or sausage roll under $5 - proper Tasmanian. Also, Mures Lower Deck does a decent fish and chips for lunch, around $12-15. If you're after a feed after market hours, hop over to Elizabeth Street Pier for the food trucks - they're often there Friday nights too. Avoid the fancy spots along the wharf, they'll sting ya.

Definitely check out the 'Salamanca Fresh' deli for a cheap and filling sandwich – grab a baguette with roast beef and horseradish. Also, don't miss 'Flippers' for fish and chips, just around the corner. If you're after a quick feed, 'Daci & Daci Bakers' has great pastries under $10. Avoid the fancy places on the main strip for lunch; they're overpriced. Stick to the side streets for better value.

I see where you're coming from, but I actually disagree a bit. The market is great, but there are some hidden gems nearby. Try the fish and chips at Flippers or a cheap banh mi from the Vietnamese place on Collins Street. Much more affordable than the market stalls!

Ah, Salamanca Market is great for weekend vibes! For cheap eats nearby, I'd recommend Bar Wa Izakaya on Elizabeth St—their lunch specials are awesome value. Also, don't miss the fish and chips from Flippers at Constitution Dock, just a short walk away. Both are local faves that won't break the bank!

Hey, I'm in the same boat! Just moved here too. Salamanca Market is great, but for cheap eats I've found the food court at the Cat and Fiddle Arcade has some good Asian options under $10. Also try Burger Got Soul on Elizabeth St – their burgers are amazing and affordable. Have you checked out the Sunday Market at the showgrounds yet? More food stalls there!
