Hey everyone, just moved to Edinburgh last week from abroad and I'm completely lost on where to settle long-term. I've been staying near the city centre but it's crazy expensive and loud at night. I'm looking for a place that's safe, has good public transport, and maybe some parks or cafés nearby – not too dead but not tourist central either. I work from home so I need decent internet. My budget is around £700-900 for a studio or one-bedroom. Heard about Leith and Marchmont but not sure if they fit. Anyone got suggestions? Also, any tips on dodgy areas to avoid? Cheers! Oh, and if anyone wants to grab a coffee and show me around, I'm up for it – I'm pretty clueless about the city still.

Ah, I totally get the struggle! The city center can be a lot, especially when you're jet-lagged. If you want quieter but still central, try Bruntsfield or Marchmont – they're leafy, full of students and young pros, and have decent rent compared to the center. Leith's also great for a fresh start, with a cool vibe and waterfront walks. Whereabouts abroad are you from? Hope you settle in soon!
