I've been in Leeds for about three weeks now, and honestly, I'm having a tough time understanding people. It's not even the words—it's the way they say them! I went to buy a bus ticket and the driver asked me something that sounded like "where to, love?" but I swear it was garbled. I just blanked and handed him a fiver. Then at the market, a lady told me the price of apples and I thought she said "two pund" but I couldn't tell if she meant pounds or pence. Is this normal? Any tips for tuning my ear to the local lingo? I don't want to keep looking like a lost puppy. Cheers.
