I moved to Ottawa a few weeks ago for work and I'm really hitting a wall with the French. I know it's a bilingual city but I didn't realize how much French pops up everywhere – signs, menus, even people switching mid-conversation. I took some classes back home but my brain freezes when I actually need to speak. Tried ordering a coffee in French yesterday and the barista just looked at me like I was speaking alien. 😅 Anyone know good spots or groups where I can practice without feeling judged? Maybe a language exchange or a relaxed meetup? I'm in the ByWard Market area if that matters. Also, is it rude to ask someone to switch to English? I don't want to be that annoying immigrant. Thanks!
