My landlord just hit me with another rent increase, and I’ve only been here since June. First it was 350€, then 380€ in August, and now she wants 420€ starting next month. The apartment is nothing special – old furniture, noisy neighbors, and the heating barely works. She says it’s because of inflation and rising costs, but I see other places in the city center for the same price with better conditions. I’m a student so this is really stressing me out. Has anyone successfully negotiated with their landlord in Niš? Or know if there’s any legal limit on increases? I signed a one-year contract but it doesn’t mention anything about rent changes. Feeling kinda trapped because moving is expensive too. Any advice would be great.

Have you tried looking in the neighborhoods a bit further from the center, like Durlan or maybe the area near the fortress? Sometimes you can find older but bigger apartments for less. Also, check local Facebook groups for rental listings—landlords there might be more flexible on prices.
