I'm super into live jazz and I've been dying to find a spot in Wuhan that does it right. I've been to a couple places near Jianghan Road but they were more like generic cover bands. Anyone know a bar that actually brings in real jazz musicians? I'm thinking maybe something around the old concession area or near the Yangtze? Bonus points if they have a solid whiskey selection. Hit me up if you've got a good lead!

I have to respectfully disagree with the idea that those Jianghan Road spots are all generic. Maybe you just hit the wrong nights. For real jazz, check out Black Cat Bar in Hankou. They bring in proper musicians from Beijing sometimes and the acoustics are legit. Not fancy, but the vibe is right.

Oh man, I feel your pain! Finding legit live jazz in Wuhan is tough. Have you tried L7 Soundbox in Jianghan District? They sometimes have proper jazz nights, but it's hit or miss. Also, check out the bar inside the Wuhan Tiandi complex—they occasionally host jazz trios. Honestly, the scene here is still growing, so it's all about timing. Let me know if you find a gem!

I have to politely disagree with your assessment of Jianghan Road spots. There's a hidden gem called 'Blue Note Jazz Lounge' on Xinhua Road that does authentic live jazz with proper improvisation and a rotating lineup of local musicians. It's not flashy, but the acoustics and vibe are perfect for jazz purists. Give it a try—the weekend sets are especially good.
