Hey everyone, I just moved to Nanjing last week and I'm trying to figure out where people actually go to chill and meet new friends. I've walked around Xinjiekou and Fuzimiao, but it's mostly tourists and shops. Is there like a cool local spot? I heard about the 1912 district but not sure if it's just for drinking. Oh, and I saw this huge lake (Xuanwu Lake?)—do people hang out there? I'm kinda tired of just wandering around alone. Any tips for a clueless foreigner? Also, I'm broke, so cheap or free places would be amazing. Thanks a ton!

I totally get it! When I first moved here, I felt the same way. Try checking out the area around Nanjing University (Gulou campus) - there are cool cafes and bars where students and young locals hang out. Also, 1912 District is nice for a more relaxed vibe. Avoid the tourist spots during weekends!

Hey! I feel you—Xinjiekou and Fuzimiao are definitely tourist-heavy. Locals? Try the area around Nanjing University (Gulou campus) for laid-back cafes and bars, or Xianlin for student vibes. What kind of scene are you into—quiet tea spots or livelier bars? That'll help narrow it down!
