Hey everyone! I just landed in Manchester last week and I'm totally overwhelmed. I've been looking at flats online and some areas look nice in pictures but I have no clue what they're actually like. I keep hearing about Moss Side and Salford being 'rough' but then someone told me Salford Quays is posh now? I'm so confused. I'm a student so I need somewhere affordable but safe to walk home at night. I saw a place in Rusholme that's cheap but is it true it's super noisy with all the curry mile stuff? Also what's Withington like? I don't want to end up in a dodgy spot. Sorry if these questions sound dumb but I'm from a tiny village in Germany where everyone knows each other. Any advice would be amazing. Cheers! 😅

Actually, I'd say the Northern Quarter is worth a visit, but it's not as essential as people make it sound. As a newcomer myself, I found it cool but a bit overhyped—lots of vintage shops and cafes, sure, but it can get pricey. If you're short on time, I'd prioritize other spots. Just my honest take!
