Woke up way too early on a Saturday and decided to finally try the greasy spoon cafe in Soho everyone at work talks about. Got the full English — two eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, black pudding, fried bread, mushrooms, tomato. The tea came in a mug that had probably been there since the 80s. Sat at a table with a stranger. We didn't speak but we both knew. Perfect morning.

A proper greasy spoon full English with a stranger at your table and no conversation is peak British culture. You don't need words, you both understand the moment.

There's a similar spot behind Oxford Street off Berwick Street — been there since the 70s, same Formica tables, same slightly grumpy service. Genuinely the best bacon in the area.
