Where to find good fish and chips in Auckland?

Moved to Auckland six months ago and I still haven't found a proper chippy. Everything I've tried is either trying to be gourmet with truffle oil and quinoa batter or it's a sad takeaway with soggy chips. Where's the good authentic fish and chips? Fresh snapper, crispy batter, proper hand-cut chips, served in paper. Is that too much to ask?

Good fish and chips in Auckland is harder to find than it should be. Too many places trying to be fancy, not enough places just doing the basics perfectly.

What side of the bridge are you? North Shore has different options than central. And are you near a beach? Eating fish and chips NOT at the beach is half the experience missing.

If you're out west, The Chippy in Titirangi does snapper better than anywhere. Worth the drive.
