Hey everyone, I've been in Izmir for about a month now, and honestly, the language barrier is kicking my butt. I can order a simit and say 'teşekkürler', but anything beyond that and I'm lost. I tried asking for directions to the elevator in Kıbrıs Şehitleri yesterday and the guy just stared at me like I was speaking Martian. 😅 I signed up for a course at Dilmer but classes don't start for two weeks. Does anyone know of any language exchange groups or conversation meetups around Alsancak or Konak? I'd love to practice with locals or even other foreigners trying to learn. Also, any tips for picking up Turkish faster? I'm thinking of labeling stuff around my apartment... Anyway, any advice or just commiseration welcome. Thanks!
