Where should I look for an apartment in Nis?

Hey everyone! Just moved to Nis for a study program and I'm totally lost on where to live. I've heard about some neighborhoods but I have no clue which one is good for a foreigner. I need something safe-ish, with cafes and maybe a grocery store nearby. My budget is around 300-400 euros for a studio. I checked out some listings near the fortress but they seemed expensive. Is the city center worth it? Or should I look at areas like Palilula or Medijana? I walked around Durlan today and it felt quiet but I'm not sure. Also, is public transport reliable? I don't have a car. Any advice would be awesome, I'm kinda stressed about finding a place before classes start! Thanks!

I totally get where you're coming from—I had the same worry when I first visited Belgrade. Dorčel is definitely worth your time, but you don't need a whole day. I'd say 2-3 hours is perfect to explore the main streets, grab a coffee, and soak in the vibe. It's more about the atmosphere than ticking off sights. You'll be glad you included it!

Totally agree, Dorcol is a must. I'd give it around half a day—maybe 3-4 hours to really soak in the vibe. Start at the Kalemegdan end and wander down to the river, hitting the quirky streets and cafes. You won't need a full day unless you plan to linger at every spot. It's compact but packed with character. Definitely worth your time!
