Went hiking in the Smokies and my legs are destroyed

Alum Cave to LeConte is no joke. That elevation gain hits different when you're not used to it. But the view at the top is incredible.

Drove up to Great Smoky Mountains for the weekend. Did the Alum Cave trail to Mount LeConte — 11 miles round trip, 2,700 feet of elevation gain. The view from the top was completely worth it but my quads are currently on strike. Saw a bear about 50 yards off the trail which was terrifying and amazing in equal measure.

Seeing a bear 50 yards away is not terrifying, it's lucky. Black bears want nothing to do with you. People who panic about bears on trails are the same ones who think every spider is dangerous.
