Spent an afternoon in a traditional teahouse in Chengdu and I understand now why people say Chengdu has the best quality of life in China. Ordered a pot of jasmine tea, paid about 30 yuan, and sat there for four hours. People were playing mahjong, getting ear cleaning done by wandering practitioners, reading newspapers, chatting. Nobody was in a hurry. The teahouse has been there for decades and the regulars clearly come every day. This is what leisure looks like when a city gets it right.
