Woke up at 4am to get to Borobudur for sunrise and I would do it again without hesitation. Climbed to the top level in the dark, sat among the stupas, and watched the sky turn from black to purple to orange while the mist cleared from the surrounding jungle. The temple was almost empty at that hour. By 8am it was full of tour groups. The early morning light on the stone carvings is extraordinary. Borobudur at sunrise is one of the great experiences of Southeast Asia.
