Grew up in KL but married a Penangite:
KL: more variety, more fusion, international food scene has exploded. Hidden restaurants in Brickfields are treasures.
Penang: hawker culture is more authentic, prices are lower, George Town heritage food is unmatched. Assam laksa at the right stall in George Town is a religious experience.
For me: Penang for hawker food, KL for everything else. The Penang food snobs need to accept that KL has done interesting things with fusion.
