Took the bumboat to Pulau Ubin and spent a day cycling around the island. It is like stepping back to Singapore in the 1960s - wooden kampung houses, dirt tracks, chickens wandering across the road. Rented a bicycle for SGD 8 and cycled to the Chek Jawa wetlands where I saw otters, monitor lizards, and hundreds of birds. The whole island is quiet and green and completely different from the city across the water. Pulau Ubin is one of the great secrets of Singapore.
