I want to take the famous Alishan Forest Railway in Taiwan but I have heard it has had some closures due to typhoon damage. Is it currently running? Is the full route available or just part of it? And is it worth the journey from Taipei? I have heard the sunrise from Alishan is spectacular but I am not sure if the train journey itself is the main attraction or if it is more about the destination. Any recent experience with this route would be really helpful.
