Visited the famous lone willow tree in Lake Wanaka and yes it is as beautiful as the photos suggest. The tree grows in the lake a few meters from the shore and the reflection in the still water is perfect. Went at dawn when the light was golden and there were only a handful of other photographers. The lake and mountains behind are stunning. Wanaka itself is a beautiful town - smaller and less hectic than Queenstown. Spent two days there and wished I had stayed longer.
