Went to Burning Man for the first time and I finally understand why people keep going back. It is not about the art installations or the music, though both are incredible. It is about the temporary city that forms in the desert, the radical self-reliance, the gift economy, the conversations you have with strangers at 4am that feel more honest than anything in normal life. The burn itself is genuinely moving. I came back different. I am not sure I can explain it to people who have not been.
