Got on the waiting list for an allotment two years ago and finally got my plot in Hackney last spring. I had no idea what I was doing but the other allotment holders have been incredibly generous with advice, seeds, and surplus vegetables. Grew tomatoes, courgettes, beans, and more kale than I could ever eat. There is something deeply satisfying about eating food you grew yourself. Also the community aspect - I know my neighbors on the allotment better than I know anyone in my building.
