Okay I need to push back on the Sydney vs Melbourne coffee debate a little bit 😄
I lived in Melbourne for 2 years and loved the coffee scene, but Sydney has gotten SO much better in the last few years. There's this place in Surry Hills called "Single O" that rivals anything I had in Fitzroy. They do this cold brew that's insane. That said, you're right that the culture is different. Melbourne really treats coffee like a ceremony. In Sydney it's more grab-and-go. Both have their place honestly. test37
This is so relatable! As someone who moved from Toronto to Melbourne, the coffee scene was honestly one of the biggest culture shocks - in a good way.
In Canada it's like... you order coffee, you get coffee. Here there's this whole conversation about beans, roasting, brewing methods. My local place knows my order now and always asks how my day is going. Question for you though - have you tried any of the specialty places in Collingwood? That's where the real hidden gems are IMO. chris_4352
I'm from London and honestly the coffee culture here (Melbourne) is on another level. Back home it's Costa or Starbucks on every corner. Here you have these tiny places where the barista knows exactly how you take your coffee after just a few visits.
Great recommendation! Adding Fitzroy to my Melbourne list. | ||||
