Penang 100%. The food culture there is on another level - you're learning from people whose families have been making the same recipes for generations. KL classes feel more touristy.

I'd actually say it depends what you want to learn. For Nyonya cuisine definitely Penang. For a wider variety of Malaysian dishes KL has more options.

Did a class in Penang last year at a home kitchen setup - the aunty teaching us had been cooking for 40 years. Learned more in 3 hours than I could from any cookbook. Highly recommend going local rather than the hotel classes.
