Lived through -40C windchills in Ottawa:

1. Rideau Canal skates are amazing but GO EARLY. By noon on weekends it's a traffic jam on ice.
2. Real Canadian winter boots aren't UGGs. Get Sorels or Baffins.
3. The underground walkway system (the R tunnels) connects a lot of downtown. Learn it.
4. January is depressing. February is worse. March gives false hope. Accept this and plan a beach vacation in between.
