Three years ago I was paying $380/week for a 1BR in Marrickville. Now that same place is $520. The increase is not linear, it's exponential.

Secret spots I've found:
- Penrith has a growing cafe scene and the trains aren't as bad as people say
- Parramatta if you work west - the food is incredible and underrated
- Wollongong is a legitimate option if you work from home. Beach, mountains, way cheaper

Currently considering Newcastle. Great coffee, good beaches, rent is still manageable.
