Did Brighton as a day trip last weekend. Left London at 8am, back by 10pm.

Verdict: yes but plan carefully.

The Lanes are charming but packed on weekends. The beach is pebbly (not sandy like everyone expects). The pier is actually fun - not just touristy. Fish and chips at Family Run is the real deal.

Best tip: go to the i360 tower at sunset. The view of the coast is genuinely stunning.
