Visited Tai O on Lantau Island and it was one of the most atmospheric places I have found in Hong Kong. The village is built on stilts over the water, connected by narrow bridges, with fishing boats moored outside the houses. The smell of dried seafood is intense and wonderful. Had shrimp paste and fish balls from a street vendor, watched an old woman mending nets, and took a boat tour through the channels. This is the Hong Kong that existed before the skyscrapers. Completely worth the journey.
