Visited Zhangjiajie and the sandstone pillars are even more dramatic in person than in the Avatar film that made them famous. Standing on the glass bridge looking down at the forest 300 meters below was genuinely terrifying and exhilarating. The cable car up to the plateau gives you views that seem impossible. The park is large and you need at least two days to see the highlights. The crowds can be intense but the landscape is so extraordinary that it does not matter. One of the great natural wonders of China.
