Drove along the Derdap Gorge, where the Danube cuts through the Carpathian Mountains, and it was one of the most dramatic landscapes I have seen in Europe. The river narrows between cliffs hundreds of meters high, the water is deep and fast, and the scale is genuinely impressive. Stopped at the Lepenski Vir archaeological site where 8000-year-old sculptures were found. The road along the gorge is one of the great drives in the Balkans. Serbia keeps surprising me.
