Discovered Tiong Bahru on a Sunday morning and it has become my favorite neighborhood in Singapore. The art deco apartment buildings from the 1930s are beautiful, the independent cafes and bookshops are excellent, and the wet market is one of the best in the city. Had kaya toast and soft-boiled eggs at a traditional kopitiam, then browsed the bookshop next door for an hour. The neighborhood manages to be both genuinely old and genuinely cool without feeling forced. This is Singapore at its best.
