Finally went to Geylang at midnight after months of people telling me I should. The durian stalls are still open, the seafood restaurants are packed, the streets are alive in a way that feels completely different from the rest of Singapore. Had durian for the first time - the smell is genuinely challenging but the taste is extraordinary, like a rich custard with something funky underneath. Ate it standing on the street at 1am. This is the Singapore that does not make it into the tourism brochures.
