Went to the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival and yes it is crowded and yes it is touristy but watching hundreds of glowing lanterns rise into the night sky over the mountains is genuinely magical. Wrote a wish on my lantern, lit it with my friend, and watched it drift up and away. The whole crowd goes quiet for a moment when the lanterns rise. Took the train back to Taipei at midnight packed with happy people. Some experiences are worth the crowds.
