I am moving to Taipei in July and everyone keeps warning me about typhoon season. I have never experienced a typhoon before and I am not sure how worried to be. How often do typhoons actually hit Taipei directly? What do people do when one is coming - do you just stay home? Are there things I should have prepared in advance? I have heard the government gives typhoon days off work which sounds almost nice, but I want to understand what I am actually dealing with.
